Mahmoud Darwish

Mahmoud Darwish died this past Saturday, August 9. Darwish was one of the great poets of the 20th and 21st centuries, and certainly the most widely known Palestinian poet of our times.

A couple of articles online published in the past couple of days, giving news of his death and accounts of his life and work: here, and here.

(Thanks to Jilly Dybka, in whose Poetry Hut Blog I found the first link here, and to poet friend Sharon Doubiago, who e-mailed the second link here.)

I wrote briefly about Darwish in a previous blogpost, here.

Holding pattern

To those of you who drop by here from time to time, I haven't disappeared. Just lying low as I sometimes do during the summer. Thanks to all who have come by recently and commented on the various posts below.

I'm going to the Albuquerque Cultural Conference again this year, Labor Day weekend, end of this month. I went last year and loved it -- you can read my comments about last year's conference here.

Last I knew, they don't have a website up for the conference at present, however if you'd like more info you can e-mail the conference organizers at: ABQConference2008 [ at ] yahoo [ dot ] com.

In the meantime, will be back soon. --
